How Is It?

 Two Questions for You…

How do you see it?

A man and his wife were awakened at 3 in the morning by a loud pounding on the door. The man jumps up gets out of bed to find a drunken stranger standing in the pouring rain.

‘Can you give me a  push’ he asked hanging onto the doorframe.

‘Not a chance’ he says ‘Its 3 in the morning’ He slams the door and goes back to bed.

His wife asks. ‘Who was it’

‘Oh just some drunk wanting a push’

‘Well, did you help him?

‘No I did not’ he says ‘Its 3 in the morning. I’m tired. Its raining’

‘Well, you sure have a short memory’ she says ‘Cant you remember 3 months ago when we broke down on vacation, those 2 strangers helped us? I think you should go and help him’

So, the man does has he is told, gets up, gets dressed and goes out in the pouring rain. He calls out into the dark.

‘Hello… are you there….are you still there?

‘Yes’ comes the answer.

‘Do you still need a push’ asks the husband.

‘Yes please’ comes the reply from the dark.

‘Where are you’? he shouts.

‘Over here on the swing’

How do you hear it?

I Corinthians 2:9

No one’s ever seen or heard anything like this, Never so much as imagined anything quite like it—What God has arranged for those who love him.

But you’ve seen and heard it because God by his Spirit has brought it all out into the open before you.

  1. A push on a swing can be as important and needed as a push when your car breaks down…we all need different things at different times. The problem the above sets us is when to answer another’s needs. Yesterday I had a meeting with my boss, we were talking about an important meeting we are to have next week and after some discussion it was decided that I would take the lead, at that point he spilt his coffee and I jumped up to get a napkin. He shouted at me to sit down!! He said do you always have to be the sort of woman who serves. He went on to explain how he saw me as much more than a woman who is in service, I tried to explain as a Christian its my calling to be in service to others, but its hard, it leads to rows, the ideal is at odds with the ideals of what I do for a job. Sometimes I wish I could just push the man on the swing :-). Really enjoyed thinking about your post xxx
